As opposed to a sit-down model, the stand-up lift truck unit is completely different to operate. The method at which you pick up loads and your movements are totally different. If you do not have proper training for operating a stand-up model, you could possibly cause harm to yourself or to co-employees. When using a stand-up unit, you must follow the correct safety rules. There are some basic operating standards which have to be met when using a stand-up model.
To begin on a stand-up unit lift truck, it is important to get a good feel for the controls and the steering knob. Instead of a steering wheel, the steering is handled with the knob steering plate. Take note that this knob moves exceptionally fast, thus, you must get used to moving it carefully so as to be sure not to over steer. The horn is situated on the control handle, like with the control for backwards, forwards and the fork movement. The floor pedal enables the forklift power to move.
If you are ready to start, turn the key to start the machine. Be sure that your forks are not extended. When you are moving all-over the floor, the forks must be pointed a little upwards. Do not drive with the forks in their extended position. If you are moving forward, move the control handle forward and to make the lift move forward, step on the pedal. If you are backing up, be certain to beep your horn so as to alert people around you. Look behind you before stepping on the pedal so as to make sure the way is clear and safe. After that, pull the control handle towards you while stepping on the pedal. Stay alert and focused and make sure that you are always operating in a safe manner.
When it comes to turning corners, turn your steering knob in the direction you need to go while keeping your hand on the control handle and your foot on the power pedal. When turning right, the steering knob would move in a clockwise direction during forward travel. If you are turning left, your steering knob would go in a counter-clockwise direction.
The stand-up units take some getting used to, especially if you have only operated sit down units. With some training and taking some time to know the machine, you can quickly and efficiently handle loads in little time.
