Classifications of Scissor Lifts & Aerial Lift Platforms
Scissor lifts consist of a series of crisscrossed steel arms, linked up to make an X pattern. When the crisscrossed arms are extended, the platform is vertically raised. There are support railings along the lifting mechanism's edges to be able to help secure the workers' tools and keep them safe.
The scissor lift has a low profile, best utilized for smooth surfaces such as pavement, hard dirt surfaces and concrete. These equipment utilize either an electric motor or a combustion engine in order to move the lift and power the lifting apparatus. The operator would need to move the lift itself if she or he has to travel horizontally, as the lift apparatus only operates the lift in a vertical manner.
Rough Terrain Scissor Lift
The standard scissor lift and the rough terrain scissor lift utilize identical lifting technology. The main difference is that the rough terrain units feature a different base which is specifically designed for surfaces which are uneven. These units also provide higher ground clearance and oversized all terrain tires. The rough terrain scissor lifts use 4-wheel drive so as to navigate through difficult and muddy terrain with no trouble.
Telescopic Boom Lift
Telescopic booms are made to be raised both vertically and diagonally. This specific unit has a small work platform which houses controls to be able to operate the boom. The controls function with a combustion engine so as to power the hydraulics that power the boom and move the lift. The telescopic boom lift has off-road capable tires and is an independent lift model.
Articulating Boom Lift
The articulating boom lift features 2 telescopic booms that are connected with a moving elbow apparatus. This lifting equipment has a bucket or a small work platform which is equipped with hand controls in order to control the boom. These are stand-alone lifts that are powered by a combustion engine. Articulating boom lifts are offered with either hard surface or off-road tires. These lifts are designed in order to reach on top of and over top of buildings.
Aerial Mast Lift
The aerial mast lift utilizes a telescopic mast in order to raise a work platform vertically into the air. Typically, these lifts are pneumatic powered or electrically powered and are self-propelled equipment. These equipment provide a great solution for working in high racks within narrow warehouse aisles. It is very vital to bear in mind that aerial mast lifts are limited to vertical movement and are not recommended for off-road application.
