History
Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started in the year 1919. The company was originally established by an engineer Anton Raky. Raky was a pioneer in modern drilling and oil drilling technology. The first company name was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
In 1937, the cornerstone for SMAG was laid when the manufacturing facility was purchased by the Salzgitter Group for making drilling machines. During the year 1986, the company obtained the grab product division from Peiner AG. Immediately after, Peiner was developed into a global brand name in the succeeding years. Now, SMAG is the market leader in the world, utilizing grabs for agriculture, waste disposal, and global cargo handling applications.
