Skyjack Safety
A scissor lift is a specialized type of industrial machinery which is used for "positioning personnel, their equipment and their tools," based on Skyjack. Anybody who is preparing to utilize this particular type of equipment must familiarize themselves with the recommended safety and operational measures suggested by the manufacturer to be able to stay safe before trying to utilize this machinery. It can be devastating to any bystanders and the operator themselves leading to serious injuries if the safety procedures are not followed.
Area
In the best scenario, scissor lifts perform at optimum levels on completely level ground. The area has to be inspected and cleared of any loose debris before driving a scissor lift over a certain terrain. To be able to lower the risks of the scissor lift tipping over and probably causing the driver to fall from his seat. It is recommended to avoid holes or steep grades while operating. Bystanders should also remain aware and stay clear of the operating scissor lift in order to make sure that they do not get run over.
Inspection
The user has to carefully check all integral parts of the device before attempting to operate a scissor lift. A functional test done while the lift is retracted allows the operator to see if all components are properly functioning before the task is initiated. It is recommended to perform a daily inspection on this equipment before starting the shift and several places even want an inspection to happen at the end of the shift also. Different companies have different rules in place to maintain safety.
Part of the inspection needs to be checking over the tires. These parts obviously add to the movability of the scissor lift and also provide the machinery with a solid foundation. A tire which is worn or faulty can blow and throw the operator from their place on top of scissor lift.
